Position Overview

Masaka Creamery is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and reliable Finance Controller to lead and strengthen our accounting operations, maintaining financial stability and transparency.;The Finance Controller role involves managing accounts, preparing accurate financial statements, overseeing budgets, and ensuring strict compliance with regulatory and internal financial policies.;The ideal candidate combines operational excellence with humility, is calm under pressure, works comfortably across Deaf and hearing teams, and has the judgement and backbone to uphold high standards with fairness and consistency.;This role reports directly to the Finance Director and works closely with department heads and team leaders.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

The main objectives and responsibilities of the position are:

  • Supervise daily accounting operations including AR, AP, inventory accounting, and cash management.
  • Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations before posting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely closure of monthly accounts.
  • Enforce proper documentation and authorization procedures for all financial transactions.
  • Ensure EBM compliance and integrity in revenue recognition processes.
  • Monitor receivables aging and enforce credit control discipline.
  • Oversee supplier payment scheduling aligned with cash flow strategy.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and Rwanda statutory requirements.
  • Review and validate all reconciliations (bank, inventory, receivables, payables, intercompany).
  • Present monthly financial performance analysis to the Finance Director.
  • Ensure zero tolerance for misstatements and undocumented balances.
  • Lead the year-end closing process and support external audits.Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for business operations.
  • Monitor budget performance and investigate material variances
  • Support operational efficiency initiatives with financial insights
  • Implement, and advise on continuous improvements of internal control systems.
  • Monitor financial, operational, and fraud risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • Monitor stock movement controls and prevent inventory leakage.
  • Ensure adherence to procurement and payment policies.
  • Perform periodic internal financial reviews and compliance checks.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) requirements.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
  • Act as primary liaison for tax inspections and financial audits (under the Finance Director).
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for Masaka Creamery.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to the Finance Director for improving profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Directly supervise Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable staff.
  • Promote a culture of discipline, accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster collaboration between finance and production, distribution, and sales teams

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Must be CPA or ACCA qualified.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably within dairy or manufacturing operations.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, taxation, and compliance requirements in Rwanda.
  • Experience in budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and analysis of financial performance.
  • Proficiency in accounting softwares and ERPs (QuickBooks and Odoo) and Microsoft Excel for reporting and analysis.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail, with strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
